I was wondering whether it would be possible to make several additions/changes to the naval technologies.

1) addition of naval helicopters.
In modern naval warfare, helicopters are increasingly becoming the work horse of navies throughout the world. Their missions include and are not limited to: Anti-submarine warfare, Transportation of troops/supplies, detection of hostile forces, standing in for attack helicopters where they are not available, etc.
Therefore, I suggest that for assault ships, escort carriers, cruisers, destroyers, and frigates, there be a option to add naval helicopters in the production stage sort of like the weapons or engines.

For carriers, however (to mantain versatility of carriers), this could also be a separate CAG with high Anti-Submarine and weak-moderate ground attack capabilities, limited transport capability, and low to no anti-air capability. Another possible idea would to be to create two separate naval helicopter units, one being a transport helicopter unit which would be a smaller transport aircraft with a minor amphibious assault bonus, and a naval utility helicopter unit which would have strong Anti-Sub abilities, a weak-modest ground attack ability, and almost no transport ability (just enough to airlift a commando batallion)

For Cruisers, Destroyers and Frigates, this could be represented by a bonus in sub detection, sub attack, and shore bombardment, but a negative influence in visibility, sea attack, and supply and fuel consumption.

For Escort carriers, in the case that it is treated as part of the ship itself rather than a separate CAG, this could be represented by a reduction of one carrier size (capacity to carry CAGs) but a significant increase in anti-sub capabilities.

In the case of Assault ships, this could be represented by a decrease in transport capability, but additional bonuses in amphibious assaults and a small increase in Anti-sub capability.


2) Addition of Amphibious Assault Ship
As many navies are increasingly employing Amphibious assault ships that have a limited ability as carriers to act as a multi-role ship, I suggest that the Escort Carrier unit be changed into a LHA (Landing Hellicopter Assault) which launches amphibious assaults exclusively through her helicopter units (e.g. Tarawa class / America class), and the Assault ship be changed into a LHD, which has a smaller aerial capability, but can launch amphibious assaults through various Landing Craft in addition to Helicopters (e.g. Wasp class / Mistral class).

The LHA would have 2 CAG slots and the same transport capacity as the assault ship unit. However, as with their real life counterparts, the America class LHAs, it would, in essence, be a light aircraft carrier with the ability to transport troops via helicopter.

The LHD would have 1 CAG slot and be closer to that of the Assault ship, with the ability to launch amhibious assaults, albeit with the additional firepower of any CAG unit that is loaded on the ship. However, considering the space consumed by the well dock and other facilities needed to launch the landing craft, the LHD should have a smaller load than the original Assault ship.

On the same note, I also think that regular carriers could also have the ability to accomodate for one batallion as "cargo" to be airlifted into battle.

Very interesting suggestions, we shall see what can be done.

However, take into account it is impossible to add another CAG like unit since the game only knows how to use CAG's and nothing else.

Which means only the unit that has the syntax "cag" will be able to land on a naval unit that has some sort of transport capacity.

I probably should clarify. By creating a new CAG unit, I meant creating a new air unit with the syntax "cag" that would have approximately half of what a regular transport plane / the smallest naval transport unit ( in this case, the LHD) to, in essence, make the player choose between maximizing his invasion forces' transport capacity, or mixing the invasion unit and adding aerial support either through traditional CAGs, or naval utility helicopters.
